Modeling GreenLight Intermodal

Greenlight Models

I'll provide a link for information on how to make decals from your own computer, so that you can have your own GLI models, in any scale. Also it's possible that decals and Special Run GLI Models may become available. Information on these would be listed below. Models will be in different 'eras' - from the 1970's through 2000's, and will include GREENLIGHT INTERMODAL containers, trailers, vehicles, intermodal equipment, and 'Greenlight Rail Services' MOW support equipment. Starting with N scale, and will expand to HO  as interest dictates. SPECIAL RUN MODELS will be available: Email for status - alabamagulf@comcast.net

Micro-Trains - N Scale 48' domestic containers are available Dec. 18th.

Jacksonville Terminal Company 40' Canvas-open top containers available Dec. 18th.

Train-worx - N scale 40' drop van decorated for subsidiary company, Greenlight Rail Services, available Dec. 18th.

Registering Your GLI Locale

Care to join the Company!  Open a local Terminal, or Service Center!

If you are really interested in participating in the concept, then you may consider to have your own Registered GLI Service location. Perimeters listed below will be to help keep things organized, since it would be Prototypically impractical to have two locations within a couple hundred miles of each other, Except in very Large Cities or coastal ports.  A Map showing each location and the servicing Railroad will be made available.  Listed Below are currant Registered GLI Locations :)

  • West Jax Yards -Jacksonville, FL - [GLI's HQ, and West Jax Terminal served by SBD/CSX / JB&T. Maintains it's own GLI Switcher]. Also an Greenlight International terminal (Ocean cargo).
  •  Eufaula, AL - small Facility with mi-jack crane serving industries along the Chattahoochee River.

Location Registering Perimeters; To have an official GLI registered location, Provide the geographical modeled location and type of facility (Rail terminal, office, Trucking Terminal, small off-load site, Port Terminal, Contract Partner(with your own freelanced RR), etc., with a ZIP code. EMAIL TO: alabamagulf@comcast.net   I will keep a list of terminals to create a Map.

Contributing & Sharing

Here will be links to share our ideas for the modeling of Terminals, off-loading sites, contract service providers (example small market areas may have another company/RR servicing GLI equipment). Customizing buildings for use, Obtaining GLI logos for use in appropriate eras, etc. Under construction.  I know there are too many forums already - Suggestions ?

The Greenlight Intermodal concept was created by R.C. Harris. Sometime during the mid 2000’s while scanning on the web I read an article by R.C.(Ryan)Harris, titled “The evolution of a freelanced paint Scheme”, in this article Ryan explained and demonstrated some Trailer drawings of how a Transportation company’s paint scheme might evolve over time, say from the late 70’s into the late 90’s. This was the right inspiration, at the Right time for me, as I had been developing intermodal concepts for my own freelanced Alabama Gulf Railway. This seem so right to me, that I asked Ryan if I could adopt his idea into my own N scale modeling, and he said sure. So, I became the ‘manager’ of my own N scale version of his initial concept, Greenlight Intermodal, and I have been expanding on it ever since. Expanded Container services were added to expand it into a worldwide Intermodal Group offering Trailer and ocean container services, and developed a new logo in 2010. The Evolution continues.

A Modeled Transportation Company - in Miniature !
The GLI concept is to model the Intermodal and Logistics industry in miniature, such as on a model railroad. It is a 'freelanced' company based on prototype practices. It is a fun way to create a miniature transportation world with the freedom to make decisions on modeling perimeters, equipment types, etc., and share this interest & ideas with others, while learning new skills in modeling.

Everyone can participate !
I've designed the 'System' to allow interaction with other modelers around the country and the world, as a Fun way of sharing our interest of model railroading and modeling the transportation industry together, no matter what geographical area in the world we model or live in. Intermodal / Containerization is truly global, so Greenlight Intermodal containers  could (& should) theoretically be seen anywhere in the world, and GLI Trailers all over North America and Mexico. Perhaps there will be a Europeon Trailer division?
Concept & Modeling
Here will be some comments on the Concept and modeling the Greenlight Intermodal equipment. To facilitate and accomplish the goal of interacting and participation with other modelers, some ideas will be presented and eventually decals as well. For those interested, a Registration list will be coordinated for those that want to open a 'model Terminal' on their layout, or dioramas.

These can be large off load areas for trains or ships, or Trucking exchange docks, or a small off-loading space on a short-line railroad.  Of course, Trailers & containers can be free-roaming 'in transit'. If interested in having your own GLI registered location,  please Read more.
